Gold Oil Retinol Neck Treatment

A retinol made for the neck, which is not the same brief as a retinol for the face.

Neck skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands and sits over muscle that moves constantly. It creases earlier than the face and it reacts harder to actives — which is why people who use retinol happily on the face often find it intolerable below the jaw. It is also the area most people forget entirely, then notice ten years later.

The formula answers that in three ways.

  • Retinol is the last ingredient on the list, and bakuchiol sits well above it. Bakuchiol works on the same renewal pathway without being a retinoid, so the two together do the job a higher dose of retinol alone would — with far less of the flaking and stinging that makes people give up on neck retinol.
  • Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate — an oil-soluble, pH-neutral vitamin C. This is the one form of vitamin C that can genuinely share a bottle with retinol; a water-based ascorbic acid could not. Ubiquinone (CoQ10) and tocopherol add antioxidant support, and bisabolol calms.
  • An entirely waterless base of squalane, jojoba and meadowfoam oils. These are light, dry-touch oils, not heavy ones, and they treat the dryness that is half the ageing you see on a neck.

Because there is no water in it, there is no preservative system and no fragrance — ten ingredients, nothing else. If your neck has reacted to things before, that short a list is the point.

Three or four drops, warmed between the fingers and swept upwards from collarbone to jaw. A waterless oil goes much further than a serum.

Important

  • Night use only.
  • Start twice a week and build up slowly — the neck needs more patience than the face.
  • Sunscreen on the neck every morning. It gets as much sun as the face and almost none of the protection.
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Which retinol to choose

The three sit on a ladder, gentlest first:

  • Pure Gold — bakuchiol alone, no retinoid at all. For skin that cannot tolerate retinol, or for pregnancy.
  • Gold Oil Retinol — bakuchiol with a low dose of retinol behind it, in an oil. Built for the neck and décolletage, and a sensible first retinol for reactive skin anywhere.
  • Retinol Renew Serum — retinol-led, for the face, with ceramides and niacinamide supporting the barrier.

Many people use the neck oil and the face serum together, which is the sensible approach if the neck is already showing more age than the face.
